Yeah. It’s the end of the week. So, you know. Cats and chicken broth and sharpies. The things my life is made up of.

I grew up in Bloomington Indiana, home to Indiana University, the Little 500, and the best record store in the mid-west. I only really make it down there once a year at this point, for the holidays, to see my folks and old friends. Which really is a shame, because it’s such an amazing town with so many things going on there. Chicago is just far enough away (and the Greyhound only goes to Indy) to make it tough to just swing by.
Here’s my last trip in a handful images.

There’s a lot I could say about 2009. And yeah, a lot of what I could say would be bad. It’s always going to be the year that my whole life changed, that I went on startling and amazing adventures, that I found out who my friends are, who my family is and the year that I finally almost got myself killed.
But why waste the time and the air on it. Jake Blaze, if you could, pass me that whisky and lets get busy living.

So Kelly and I just got back from Puerto Rico last night and I’ll be sorting through the epic amount of photos I shot there over the holiday. One day back in Chicago to wrap up christmas shopping and then I’m on the Greyhound tomorrow for Indianapolis to see the folks for Christmas.
The weekend before I helped out at (as well as racing in and placing DFL) Augie Montes and Nico Deportago-Cabrera’s Seasons Beatings alleycat and weekend of mayhem. The race was part of the continuing effort to raise money for the Tokyo Bicycle Messenger Association, which took on a substantial debt (about $34000 natch) putting on the 2009 Cycle Messenger World Championship.

To help raise money to support the TKBMA the International Bicycle Messenger Federation has organized a bit of an intercity competition, the Tokyo Fundraiser Cup, to see who can raise the most. Right now there has been over $8000 raised and the city leading is, you guessed it, Chicago.
The event more or less took place over three days, starting with a late night sprint race and afterparty, the actual alleycat and then afterparty and then an all day brunch/dance party/destroy Josh Tripps house. Not just Chicago was in effect – Matt and Jeff from Philly actually flew here to sleep on my couch and do the poker race.

Chrome, who threw down prizes for the race, just put up some of the photos Allison Peck and I shot during the weekend over on their blog:

Photographer Jerome Abramovitch, whom I had the pleasure of hanging out with in Tokyo during the CMWC a couple months ago, just got his full Tokyo report up over on his blog, featuring a nice photo of me handling it in Tokyo traffic. His stuff is pretty great and totally worth a look.
Check it here: www.chapter9photography.com/blog

As for me I’m about four hours away from flying out to Puerto Rico for a week, fleeing cold cold Chicago. Christmas tan here we come. . .

I shot this job a while back, but just ran into it on Lawyer Jim’s new website, lawyerjimfreeman.com. Jim’s law office specializes in cyclist, pedestrian and transit rider injury claims and has been an important part of Chicago’s cycling community for a while now.

From the inside when you drop a 1 yen coin in a camera and it eats your shutter.

And yeah. That costs about $400 to fix, in case you were wondering.
