Chicago Soy Dairy 24.04.2010

I’ve been doing a lot of work lately for Chicago Soy Dairy, makers of Vegan products like Teese Vegan Cheese, Dandies Vegan Marshmallows and Temptation Vegan Ice Cream. They’re great people, based out of the Chicago burbs. Their marketing director Dan Reed is an old friend of mine from back in the day, and owner Ryan Howard ended up having a ton of mutual friends from back in Indiana.

Anyway, I’ve been Vegan since I was 16, so it’s really exciting for me to get to work on something like this, working with products that I really support and with people’s who beliefs co-incide with mine.

Phoenix PSP 2010 23.04.2010

So also last month, while I wasn’t photographing the President, I was in Phoenix for the 2010 Phoenix Open. I had been in Phoenix for another job, filming iPhone cases for a client, and I stayed over a couple extra days to shoot for Understood Clothing and Disconnected Media. Highlight of the trip was getting into PHX 12 hours before anyone else on my crew, sleeping on a chair at the airport until Yosh Rau, Davey Williamson and Ryan Greenspan from Dynasty got in and then tagging along with them for the rest of the day until Dan Napoli and the rest of the crew got in. I love the Dynasty guys and I don’t get to hang out with them nearly enough, so that was pretty rad.

Now that I don’t photograph paintball full time and just do specific client work I’m finally freed up to really fully embrace the aesthetic I’ve spent the last ten years building up: photography of people yelling, people looking tired, players walking off the field crushed in defeat, people getting shot foolishly and generally everything that no other paintball photographer seems to pay attention to.

Not to be a total asshole, but I did it first and I did it best. And since there’s no money in it anymore I get to do what I want.

Just saying.

Health Care Reform Rally with President Obama 22.04.2010

Last month I had the opportunity to go to Iowa City to photograph Brack Obama for the Democratic National Committee at a rally held celebrating the passage of the healthcare reform bill. It was a pretty last minute job, involving renting a car at O’Hare, driving all night, sleeping in said rental car, photographing the event and the President, then driving back to Chicago and passing out.

Here are a couple images from it.

Event | Tokyo at Flourish Studios April 30th 22.04.2010

I’ve actually been working a lot lately, and have a bunch of stuff to post here updating where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing, but real quick I have a gallery reception Friday April 30th from 6-8pm at Flourish Studios (3020 N Lincoln). It’s a group show and features a bunch of other great artists (Henry Bolzon, Pauline Kochanski, Alice Dubois and my good buddy Adam Clark). I’ll be showing work from the 2009 Cycle Messenger World Championship Toyko (different work than was featured in the Chicago Bike Winter Show). The show runs from April 20th – June 12th, so there’s some time to check it. Also, 10% of sales of work from the opening gallery go to benefit Working Bikes Cooperative, which is a cool and good thing.

Tearsheet | COG Magazine Issue 08 11.03.2010

Just got a box from the guys over at COG Magazine yesterday with copies of the new issue. I have two pieces in it, the first being an interview with reigning North American Cycle Courier Champion Christina Peck, which I conducted and photographed, and the other being photos from the 2009 Cycle Messenger World Championship in Tokyo.

As always I’m thrilled to work with and be a part of COG – Pete, Kevin, Yohei and Eric are amazing people to work with and the magazine continues to blow me away.

You can find copies at bike shops worldwide by checking here or order copies here.

NAHBS COG Photo Exhibition + Bike Winter Art Show 23.02.2010

So I’ve got work in two events this weekend, one in Richmond Virginia and the other here in Chicago.

First up on Friday is the 13th Critical Mass Bike Winter Art Show Closing Party, which will be at the Rumble Arts Center (3413 W North Ave) here in Chicago from 6pm–Midnight. The prints that are currently up at New Wave Café will be moving over there for that, so you have one more chance to check them out.

Next up on Saturday is the COG Magazine Photo Exhibition/NAHBS Afterparty, which will be at the Marvin Lang Building (1623 W Broad) in Richmond VA. The event, taking place during the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, will feature work of mine, as well we other COG photographers like Peter DiAntoni and Yohei Morita. I’m really excited to be a part of the show, so if you’re in Richmond for NAHBS or any other reason you should check it out.

Chicago Bike Winter Art Show 01.02.2010

The Chicago Bike Winter Art Show kicks off this Friday at New Wave Coffee in Logan Square (2557 N. Milwaukee). I’ll have work in it again this year – never seen before prints from the Cycle Messenger World Championship in Tokyo. Additionally opening night features a sale on TyK 2010 cycling Ladies PinUp and Men’s SuperHero Calendars. I shot and designed the Men’s calendar, so you’ve got a chance to not just buy prints of mine, but you can take home a calendar packed full of my photos. Rad, huh.

DC Calling 22.01.2010

Ok. So these photos kind of have nothing to do with anything I’ve been working on, but after yet another laptop harddrive crash I stumbled on them while trying to restore stuff. They’re from a trip I made to DC this summer, and while they’re pretty “stock” I think they’re nice.

Plus Chicago is grey and cold today so it’s cool to see some sun, even if it’s halfway across the country and six months ago.
