Cuttin’ Crew Classic 2009 or how I spent the day in a bar 04.09.2009

So last weekend, in addition to being Messenger Prom, was also the Cuttin’ Crew Classic, Chicago’s premier alleycat race. I’ve raced in previous years races (as well as having photographed the last one, which was back in 2007).

This year, however, I’m still laid up from getting jumped a couple weeks ago so I volunteered to work one of the poker race checkpoints with Andy Dumptruck and his lady Laurie. Originally the checkpoint was supposed to be at Kuma’s, but it’s not actually possible to get in or get a table there on the weekend, so Blaze and Augie redirected us to a new bar across the street, Square Bar. The staff there seemed pretty stoked when we told them what was up and that we’d be there for the next few hours, drinking and having people come through and being “encouraged” to also drink (no drink no card).

I shot a little of the folks that came though and even though I was disappointed that I couldn’t race or shoot the actual race, it wasn’t a bad way to spend an afternoon.
