Get Christina to Tokyo 17.08.2009

So I know this is a work-in-progress blog, but my soon to be roommate Christina Peck won the North American Cycle Courier Championship in Boston a couple weeks ago. She’s the 1st woman to take the overall winner for a NACCC ever, and it’s a pretty big accomplishment.

Typically 1st place prize at the NACCC is a plane ticket to the Cycle Messenger World Championship, which this year is going down in Tokyo. For whatever reason (I’m assuming a lack of funding and a bad economy) the Boston NACCC were not able to give Christina a ticket to Tokyo, which is a huge bummer, since it’s going to be a no holds barred international event, and we want our best riders there to rep the U.S. and Chicago.

So my buddy Russell from Upgrade started an online fundraiser to try and get together enough scratch to get Christina a plane ticket, which runs about $800, and to offset some of the other costs of getting over there (getting your bike there isn’t cheep, as I’m finding out myself). As one of the kids that helped throw the 2008 Chicago NACCC, I really think it’s a worthwhile cause (and, you know, I’m going to Tokyo and it would be rad to get to hang out with her there).
